Registration for the Intercultural Family Retreat 2026 will open later

The Intercultural Family Retreat is for families* with an immigrant or refugee background – this means that at least one person in the family must be an immigrant/refugee or have an immigrant/refugee background.

We aim to make it financially possible for all families to participate, and therefore, the price is 200 kr. per family. This includes your stay, meals, and all activities.

Spots are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. At the same time, we want to ensure new families get the chance to join. That’s why about 50% of places are reserved for first-time families. Returning families may be placed on a short waitlist if needed, so that we can keep a good balance.

Your registration if finalized once you receive a confirmation letter, including payment information.

If you have any questions or need help, please send an email to familjulega@redcross.fo.

*Families includes all types of families -mother and father, mother and mother, father and father, single parents, grandparents, guardians and more. All types of families are welcome.

Volunteer

Volunteer

We are seeking volunteers for various roles – including social activities, kitchen support, and the retreat leadership team.

What do volunteers do at the retreat?
All volunteers contribute to creating a safe, positive, and welcoming environment where both adults and children from different cultures have the opportunity to connect, build friendships, and feel a sense of belonging.

Volunteers for social activities
You will help host the families and coordinate fun and engaging activities – such as games, cozy hangouts, and creative workshops.

Volunteers in the kitchen
You’ll assist with preparing and serving food, setting tables, clearing up, and doing dishes.

Volunteers in the leadership team
The leadership team has the overall responsibility for the retreat. They set the framework, support the other volunteers, ensure smooth coordination, and help foster wellbeing and structure. We are looking for people who are organized, collaborative, and flexible, and who enjoy working with a diverse group of people.

When and how much time is required?
The retreat takes place from Friday to Sunday, 9.–11. October 2026. All volunteers arrive on Friday morning, 9. October, to help with setup, and stay in Nesvík until Sunday evening.

In addition to the retreat weekend, there will be one or two preparation meetings in August or September. During these meetings, volunteers will receive information about the Red Cross, the retreat, and their role. We will also cover topics such as our community guidelines, conflict resolution, data protection, and share out tasks. A course in psychological first aid will also be offered to all volunteers.

Volunteers are expected to attend the meetings and spend approximately 4–6 hours on preparation and coordination. The leadership team begins their work in May and meets regularly to plan the retreat.
Communication between volunteers takes place via a Facebook group.

Requirements and how to apply
Age requirements: All volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Young people under 18 may assist together with a parent or guardian. Leadership team members must be at least 25 years old.

Volunteers fill out the Red Cross volunteer agreement, which includes confidentiality and duty-to-report obligations, a commitment to work in accordance with the organization’s mission and the seven Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross, as well as coverage by volunteer insurance. Volunteers must also give consent for a child safety certificate to be obtained.

Application form will be out soon, but you can also apply by writing an email

All applicants will be invited for a short conversation, and will receive a response soon thereafter.
